Outdoor Soccer Frequently Asked Questions
- What Programs do you offer?
High River Minor Soccer offers 2 different programs in the Spring from Late April through to the End of June. All programs are co-ed at this time.
Our House League caters to boys and girls aged 3 to 15 as of December 31st of the previous year. Practices are held typically for 45-90min (age group dependant) one night of the week usually Monday through Thursday. All games are held on Saturday Mornings on soccer pitches around the High River area, except the May Long weekend.
Our Travel league caters to those boys and girls who have taken a keen interest in soccer and are aged 9 through 15. They have 1-2 games per week with 1-2 practices per week for a total of three nights per week. There are no games on the weekend unless required as a make-up game. We travel to the other towns throughout the Foothills from Claresholm to Vulcan to Turner Valley and Red Deer Lake.
- What night will my child’s practice be?
High River Minor Soccer Registers and rosters almost 400 participants from March 1 to April 15th. Practices are typically held Monday through Thursday between 6:30 and 8:30 depending on the age group. We can not guarantee what night your child will practice on until rosters are issued. You will receive an email from your coach as soon as details are finalized.
- What field will my child play on?
We utilize fields throughout High River and work with the Town of High River Recreation Department to balance conflicts with other groups. Your child’s game and practice field will be communicated by the Coach as soon as it is complete.
- What are the costs?
Through advanced registration, our House League costs are $100 per player with a $20 savings for families of 3 players or more. This includes a Soccer Ball, t-Shirt, Water bottle and Pictures.
Our Travel league costs are $160 per player and this. This includes Soccer Ball, Water bottle and Pictures.
- What payment options are available?
All major credit cards are accepted through our website at www.highriversoccer.ca. Cash and check payments can be made at our Registration Round Ups or by contacting info@highriversoccer.ca.
Should financial assistance be needed, this can be arranged through either Jumpstart or Kidsport. Contact info@highriversoccer.ca for more information.
Lastly, High River Soccer will subsidize the fees for players whose parents volunteer to help. There are options to Coach, help coordinate teams or equipment and Board positions available for those parents who would like to be part of soccer.
- What equipment is needed?
All a player needs to play soccer is a good set of outdoor shoes (runners are fine) and a pair of shin pads covered by either soccer socks or pants. Shin Pads are mandatory for all players at practices and games. Players are not permitted on the field without them.
- What about bad weather?
Welcome to Alberta, we can see anything in the Spring. Though with our short season, we try to play through minor weather hiccups as best we can. Unless you have heard from your coach that the game or practice is cancelled, come out to the field. Some of our Coaches have been very creative at running events even in the snow!! Remember parents get cold, kids don’t!
- My Child wants to play with their friend can this be accommodated?
There is a comment section on the registration form where special requests for nights or teammates can be added. The team will make every possible effort to accommodate requests but cannot guarantee all requests will be possible.
